Lost, Season 4 - Episode #6 - "The Other Woman"

ABC

manatee: Hi Marmot!

marmot: Good morning, Manatee.

manatee: So how was you favorite hour of TV last night?

marmot: As always, L O S T is amazing, but last night's episode was not the best. You didn't pick a great episode to start on. Or maybe you did...

manatee: At first I really thought I could jump right in, sure it was confusing, but I figured I'd go along for the ride and enjoy it. I was mighty confused.

marmot: Here is the #1 rule you need to know about L O S T: Jack and Kate are world class douche bags. What left you confused?

manatee: I know you explained to me the Island people, the new people on some barge, and then the plane crash people, and I think there was 1 more group.... but I did not understand why the people are all spread out. Why is Ben captured with people from the plane crash, and others were stuck on the beach? Also, what's up with Jack and Juliet... she sure got over that dead guy with the stake in is heart awfully quick! What were those weird whispers in the jungle too?

marmot: That was the biggest thing I took away from last night's episode, the fact that Juliet only needed 2 months to get over Goodwin's impaling. Here's the breakdown: Ben is the conniving leader of the Others (Juliet did have the best joke of the night with referring to herself as an Other - that was the name the crash survivors gave them), and has been trying to thwart their rescue. The crash survivors broke into two camps at the beginning of this season: those who think the boat is there to help them went with Jack, and the ones who think the boat is there to harm, with Locke.

manatee: Got it

marmot: The whispers are something that have been around since the first season. I think it's some kind of cloaking device the Others use to get around the island, but it's never really been addressed.

manatee: Why was Juliet brought to the island in the first place? And what was that "list" Ben was talking about in the flashback - when it sounds like he brings some kids from the crash to their homes? He says they are on the list.

marmot: Juliet was recruited by them because she created some amazing fertility drug. The women on the island had been dying during pregnancy if the child was conceived on the island. The list is still a mystery as to who is on it and why. Last night was the first time it had been brought up in a while. The list was written by Jacob, who is probably the biggest mystery on the show right now.

manatee: got it. Where did she come from? How did Ben (who lives on this island) recruit her? Does he leave the island, or does he communicate with people off the island?

marmot: This is why you need to watch the first 3 seasons, Manatee. Juliet came from Portland, and she was recruited though other Others. Ben is able to leave the island (or, was) as are (were) the rest of his clan.

manatee: hmmm, after seeing last night's I'll continue to watch new episodes for the sake of our job, but I'm not very compelled to go back and watch 3 seasons. I think one of my big problems was the score... what was up with the bad music, and false drama? Also, who has a VCR anymore? haha. But tell me what you liked about it, enough negative

marmot: Last night's score was a little much. It's usually very good - Michael Giacchino is amazing. Honestly, last night's episode didn't do much for me. It's a common flaw of the show, they have a great episode, then a mediocre one. But even the mediocre ones are better than the best episodes of most shows. Last night had one big reveal: that Charles Widmore/Bradford Meade/Vice President Prescott is the one who is after Ben. This wasn't a huge revelation, but confirmed a lot of people's theories. However, if all he wants is to exploit the island financially, as Ben said, that's a little disappointing.

manatee: It was nice to have the return of "Bradford." So the one thing I will take away will be that, and I will store it for next week, as I continue to get my bearings in Season 4.

marmot: Don't forget that Jack and Kate are douche bags. THAT is the fundamental thing to remember.

manatee: Aren't they the main characters?!

marmot: For the most part, yes. You got a good example of it last night, when Jack said to Juliet, "if there's something you need to tell me..." Jack thinks he's still the most important person on the island, like he was in Season 1 and 2. And Kate...ugh. For me, the best part of last night was when Kate got pistol-whipped.

manatee: I don't like her much even after 1 episode. Plus she is a murderer!

marmot: Yeah, she blew up her dad. In all fairness, he had it coming, but c'mon.

manatee: Blew him up! WOW! That's crazy

marmot: That's Kate for ya. Completely incapable of acting like a normal person.
